Domino’s Largest Franchisee Buys the Singapore, Malaysia and Cambodia Businesses for $214 Million

Domino’s Pizza Enterprises, the largest franchisee in the Domino’s Pizza system and a listed company, acquired the Domino’s Pizza businesses in Malaysia, Singapore and Cambodia for $214 million. FoodBud described the deal as the company’s largest expansion plan to date.

According to Domino’s Pizza’s 2021 annual report, Domino’s Pizza Enterprises operated 3,229 Domino’s stores across 10 markets, including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, France and Taiwan. That represented 17% of Domino’s total store base, while accounting for 1.7% of total revenue in 2021.

The company’s website showed a current store count of 3,396. During its second-quarter earnings call, Domino’s Pizza Enterprises said digital orders had reached 78% of orders.

FY2022 Performance

For the fiscal year ended July 3, 2022, Domino’s Pizza Enterprises reported:

  • System sales of $3.9 billion
  • Revenue of $2.29 billion
  • Asia revenue of $800 million, making Asia its largest regional market

In FY2022, the company opened 294 new stores, averaging more than five new openings per week. It also acquired 156 stores in Taiwan, bringing total added stores for the year to 450.

Southeast Asia Expansion

The Malaysia, Singapore and Cambodia acquisition expands Domino’s Pizza Enterprises’ Asia-Pacific customer market by 30%, reaching 234 million people.

The three acquired markets had 287 stores, with the majority in Malaysia, where there were 240 stores.

After completing the acquisition, Domino’s Pizza Enterprises raised its 2033 Asia store-count target from 2,400 stores to 3,000 stores.

By store count in Singapore, Malaysia and Cambodia, Domino’s Pizza was the second-largest player after Pizza Hut.
